I SHUTTER TO THINK ABOUT IT
2006 was a frustrating and expensive year for many South Floridians whoe were victim to those in the business of selling hurricane shutters.
I was also a victim of a compnay who got a larger than neccessary deposit and never delivereed. I went about this the wrong way. I didn't know the laws regarding deposit amounts and delivery and installation time. I also did not check the Better Business Bureau (bbbsoutheastflorida.org) for ratings on my company of choice, which were bad. Numerous phone calls were made and the representative kept giving me excuses such as they're waiting for the bolts, they have to re-measure, and the installer fell off a ladder and was out for the week, but "not to worry" I will have my shutters in a few more weeks. After tem months of this, I got aggressive and was lucky to get my deposit back.
Now it's 2007 and, yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This time I callede my State Farm agent for recommendation, and then I checked the companies at bbbsouthflorida.org. In Febuary i signed a contract with ALL BROWARD HURRICANE PANEL, Inc. and in April my installation was complete and inspection passed. This time around, recommendations and spending a little time to research a company's reputation paid off.
It's reassuring to know that there are still reputable, reliable, and honest businesses out there that do the job, do it right, and keep their word.
